Two thieves from Abbotsford find themselves in jail after they attempted to rob a business in Lower Nicola.

Eric Froese (60) and Amber Boutin (33) were in the process of stealing items at a store on the morning of May 1 when an employee interrupted them, said Staff Sgt. Lorne Wood.

The pair fled the business before police arrived on scene, but the employee was able to provide an accurate description of the suspects and the license plate of the pickup truck they were driving.

The truck, determined to be a rental vehicle out of the Lower Mainland, was spotted at a gas station in Merritt later that morning.

“The suspects were brought back to the Merritt RCMP detachment where it was learned that the woman had provided a false name to investigators,” Wood wrote in an email to the Herald, adding both suspects face other charges from unrelated matters.

Both suspects face a charge of break and enter with the intent to commit and indictable offence, and Boutin has also been charged with obstructing a peace officer, breaching conditions of her bail and drug possession.

Further charges may be considered as the investigation continues.
