Canadians head to the polls today to determine the next party to lead our country, with the 2021 federal snap election now underway.

Polls across the nation are open from 7a.m.-7p.m. today, including a number of different locations throughout Merritt. Where eligible voters go to cast their ballot is determined by one’s postal code, which can be entered at www.elections.ca to find the correct station. If a voter’s registration card came in the mail, the proper location can be found there as well.

Masks are mandatory at all voting stations, though proof of vaccine is not required.

In the riding of Central Okanagan-Similkameen-Nicola, there are five candidates on the ballot:

  • Dan Albas, Conservative Party (incumbent)
  • Sarah Eves, Liberal Party
  • Joan Phillip, New Democratic Party
  • Brennan Wauters, Green Party
  • Kathryn McDonald, People’s Party of Canada.

According to federal election projector 338Canada, the incumbent Albas, who has held the seat since the riding was created in 2015, is favoured to regain his seat.
