An Evacuation Order has been issued for properties near the community of Spences Bridge.

169 properties fall under the order, which was issued by the Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).

The Lytton Creek fire is threatening both structures and the safety of residents in the area.

Due to the number of wildfires burning across the province, thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes and take shelter in neighbouring communities.

According to the TNRD: “There is a critical shortage of commercial accommodations in Kamloops and throughout the region. If your primary residence has been evacuated, we recommend that you arrange to stay with friends or family.”

Those requiring Emergency Support Services should report to Chilliwack Senior Secondary School, 46363 Yale Rd, Chilliwack between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Phone number: 604-316-4967.

An additional 94 properties were placed on Evacuation Alert on July 22, also due to the growing Lytton Creek fire, which is now estimated to be 15,664 hectares in size and classified as Out of Control. The blaze has been moving predominantly northeast as strong winds set in yesterday.

42 firefighters, four helicopters and eleven pieces of heavy equipment are currently working to contain the fire, alongside 28 structure protection personnel.
