The Merritt Senior Citizens Association received a cheque donation on Thursday, October 13, for $1000, allowing them to continue the expansion of their meals program. The organization, which operates out of the Seniors Centre on Tutill Court, is currently in the process of upgrading their kitchen to allow for a meals for seniors program.
Members of the Merritt Senior Citizens Association gathered before their board meeting to accept the cheque, presented by Marilyn Christensen, economic development manager for the City of Merritt, on behalf of a Kamloops-based company called Exceed Electrical Engineering. Christensen said she helped facilitate the donation when Exceed reached out to her requesting a list of nonprofit organizations in the City of Merritt. The engineering company chose to donate to the seniors association as part of their community involvement program.
“When Exceed Electrical Engineering was founded, it was decided that setting aside part of our revenues to give back to the community would be especially important – so important that we wrote our giving priority into our corporate business plan to keep us accountable,” reads the organization’s website.
“The result of this mindset was the ability to set aside over $10,000 worth of cash as charitable donations in our first year of operations. This number continues to grow as we expand and do business, and our hope is that these proceeds will make a difference locally – and beyond!”
The Seniors Association said they are grateful for the funding, and are already working to move ahead with their kitchen and meal program expansion.
