Merritt Baptist Church Pastor Narayan Mitra says that this Sunday’s services are cancelled due to the ongoing Evacuation Alert.

“Since we are under Evacuation Alert in Merritt, and given the state of confusion among individuals, and given that many of us have left the area for safety reasons, the Merritt Baptist Church will be cancelling services on Sunday,” reads a statement from Mitra.

“Services will be cancelled until the fire danger has passed. You will be notified when Services resume.

“Please pray for our churches in Merritt, for the fire situation, for rain and especially for our firefighters and everyone’s safety. This is a very difficult time for all of us and every prayer is important to the Lord.

“My thoughts and prayers are with you always. In Jesus’ precious name, I ask the Father to protect you and keep you safe.
“God bless you all, and just remember, God loves you. Always keep a song in your heart.”

Merritt is under Evacuation Alert due to the ongoing Lytton Creek wildfire, which continues to burn at 84,327 hectares as of Thursday afternoon.
