Despite less than balmy temperatures, Merritt golfer Roger Sloan continued his ‘hot’ play down in Texas.
The 23-year-old Sloan shot a closing round one-over-par 73 to win the Cypresswood Open in Spring, TX by one stroke over Bryan Novoa of the United States.
This is Sloan’s second victory on the Adams Golf Winter Pro Tour Series. Back in November, he was a winner of the Houston National Open.
This past weekend, on the Cypresswood Tradition Golf Course, Sloan garnered a total of seven birdies over his two rounds for a one-under-par total of 143. He earned $2,660 for his efforts.
Sloan, who graduated from Merritt Secondary School before taking a four-year golf scholarship to the University of Texas-El Paso, currently sits ninth on the Winter Series money list with $8,127 in earnings.
Sloan’s biggest payday to date was in May of last year when a course record final round 61 at the Times-Colonist Open in Victoria, B.C. propelled him to a fourth place finish and an $11,000 prize.
