After a slow start on the opening day, Roger Sloan had a dream round on day two at the Wells Fargo Championship.

The Merritt golfer joins some of the top PGA players in the world for the tournament in Charlotte, North Carolina, making the cut to play the weekend by shooting a seven-under 64 on Friday.

The cut seemed a far stretch for Sloan after the first round on Thursday – he opened up with a bogey on the first hole, then bogeyed the third hole, then the fifth – before things seemed out of hand with a double bogey on the sixth after a three-putt from just over four feet.

Although he managed a couple birdies on the back nine, he left the course five-over par after day one.

A new Sloan returned to the tee the following day – after shooting par on the first two holes, he went on a streak of six birdies over the next eight, and carded only one bogey over the entire eighteen to bring his total score back to two-under.

He easily surpassed the cut, which was two-over.

The next closest score of the second round was that of megastar Rory McIlroy, who shot a five-under.

Sloan heads into the weekend rounds in a tie for 14th, four shots back of leaders Matt Wallace and Gary Woodland. He is also the highest Canadian in the field, with fellow Canucks Nick Taylor and Corey Conners tied for 24th one stroke behind Sloan.

Pairings for Saturday morning will be available on www.pgatour.com once all golfers have completed their second Friday evening.
