Trailer broken into
On Feb. 7, Merritt RCMP were advised that a travel trailer parked in the driveway of a residence in the 2800 Block of Peregrine Way was broken into. Suspect(s) gained entry through the door, nothing appears to be missing.
Tobaggan recovered
On Feb. 7, Merritt RCMP recovered a toboggan that had been stolen from Barriere area on Jan. 28. The investigation is ongoing as police determine how the toboggan ended up in the Merritt area. If anyone has any information about this, they are asked to call the Merritt Detachment or Crime Stoppers.
Drunk driver
On Feb. 10 at approximately 12:30 a.m., Merritt RCMP stopped a vehicle on Garcia Street after it pulled out of a parking position, cutting off the police car. The police car had to take evasive action in order to avoid a collision. The driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old woman from Williams Lake, was found to have been drinking and her ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. She provided two breath samples and failed both. She was subsequently prohibited from driving for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Attempted break-in
Sometime overnight on Feb. 11, unknown person(s) attempted to enter a business in the 2100 Block of Quilchena Avenue by prying open an alleyway entrance door. Investigation revealed that three separate attempts had been made with a pry bar to break open the deadbolt. The attempts failed as the lock and door remained intact. The damage to the door and frame were minor and no access gained.
Stolen items from vehicle
Sometime overnight on Feb. 12, unknown person(s) smashed the driver’s side window in a vehicle parked in the 2300 Block of Jackson Avenue. Stolen items include a GPS unit, a radar detector and money.
Tidy tank taken
Sometime over the weekend of Feb. 9, unknown person(s) stole a red 160 gallon tidy tank from a shed in the 4300 Block of Monk Park Road. The tidy tank was removed from a storage shed on the property.
Driving without due care
On Feb. 13 at approximately 1:30 p.m., Merritt RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle motor vehicle accident on Hwy 97C near Eight Mile Road. Upon arrival, police noted that B.C. Ambulance Service was already on scene. Two males and a female were in an ambulance, receiving medical treatment. They were transported to Nicola Valley Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Scene examination determined that a 1998 Toyota 4-Runner had been south bound on Hwy 97C. The vehicle had gone off road, right into the gravel shoulder, and then corrected and crossed the double solid centreline. The vehicle then went off road right and rolled before ending up back on its wheels facing northbound. Road conditions were bare and dry at the time of the accident. Speed was a contributing factor in the collision. The driver, a 27 year old man from Surrey, was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and attention contrary to Section 144(1)(a) of the Motor Vehicle Act. He received a $368 fine.
Street fight
On Feb. 14 at approximately 9:30 p.m., Merritt RCMP were dispatched to a fight that was taking place in the 2400 Block of Clapperton Avenue. While investigating this occurrence, police located and recognized an 18-year-old local man who was breaching his probation order. He was arrested and held in custody until he appeared before a provincial court judge on Feb. 15. When he appeared in court, Cody Marshall pled guilty and was sentenced to one day in jail.
