The stars will be shimmering in Merritt, as Sayso presents a solid lineup of talent at Iron Mountain Music this Saturday night.

The Sayso Expression Society is hosting two bands, made up of present and former Merritt residents and is a way to raise the exposure of Iron Mountain Music and the Capital Soundstage.

“We want to make sure that Iron Mountain Music gets used by locals and people coming through Merritt, and to pick up the profile of this excellent venue,” says Mil Juricic, one of the founders of the Sayso Expression Society.

The Shimmering Stars will be opening up for the Dung Beatles and the members of this band are currently living and playing music in Vancouver.

The band members in The Shimmering Stars are Rory McClure, Brent Sasaki, and Andrew Dergousoff, who all grew up playing music together in Merritt.

“There was a good little music scene in Merritt between 1996-1999,” says McClure.

“It was very friendly, integrated, and supportive.”

The Shimmering Stars have recently played at the South by Southwest music showcase in Austin, Texas and their brand of garage pop music is garnering record label interest.

The Dung Beatles will be playing their brand of roots rock, featuring a wide range of styles that encompass the many musical influences that affect the band.

Made up of a mixture of Kamloops and Merritt residents the Dung Beatles have been playing music in one form or another for about ten years.

“We play shows about once a month,” said Mo Olek, who in his day job is also a teacher in Merritt.

The Dung Beatles consist of Tim McClure, Phil Heal, Sean Schneider, and Mo Olek.

The doors will open at Iron Mountain Music at 8 p.m. on Saturday April 30 and tickets can be purchased in advance at Brambles Bakery and Country Bug Books.
