The annual Walk of Stars Gala is set and the talent will be on hand to provide another great year of music in large part thanks to an exceptional performer.

On May 28 Merritt will once again be treated to the talents and professionalism of a touring musician, songwriter, arranger and producer, that has made the Walk of Stars Gala the success it has become.

Tom McKillip is one of the most sought after and talented producer/musicians on the Canadian Country Music scene.

Despite being the musical director for the B.C. Country Music Awards (BCCMA) and the Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMA), McKillip still looks forward to Merritt’s Gala after performing here for eight years and running.

“We are treated like kings Robyn Grebliunas and Ron Sanders put on a great show and we are always treated exceptionally,” says McKillip.

McKillip will lead an eight person band that will perform with the five musicians during their performances.

This is also a role that he plays during the B.C. and Canadian Country Music Awards, learning the songs the various artists perform.

Having built relationships playing with many of the artists on this year’s Gala bill, MKillip looks forward to the selected artists and the condensed line-up which will give more room for the artists to perform their work.

“Having fewer artists on the bill will give the artists a chance to show their range,” says McKillip.

Having worked closely with most of the performing artists, McKillip is certain that this year will offer the audience an even better opportunity to see some of the best musicians in the Canadian music scene up close and personal.

With his contacts in the music industry, McKillip is invaluable during the selection process for each year’s Gala, having, met many of the performers through his work with the CCMA and the BCCMA.

“I always look forward to the Gala and especially the chance to play a great game of golf the next day.”

As the musical director for the Gala, McKillip helps the organizers choose the lineup for each year’s show.

This year’s Gala will feature Jim Byrnes, Patricia Conroy, Tara Oram, Chad Brownlee, and Haylee. The event will also be hosted by Country Music Television’s Casey Clarke and will take place on Saturday May 28 at the Merritt Civic Centre.

On Friday night Iron Mountain Music will be hosting an industry night as well, which is an opportunity for musicians and those connected with the industry to showcase some of their talents.
