The week spanning May 9-15 saw two new cases of COVID-19 in the Merritt area, according to the BC CDC.

The number marks one more case than was seen the previous week, with numbers dropping into the single digits over the last month.

For the second week in a row, the surrounding regions of Princeton and the South Cariboo saw zero new cases. Central Okanagan, specifically Kelowna, continues to be the closest hotspot to Merritt, with 185 new cases over the one-week span: an average daily rate of 10-15 cases per 100,000 population. Keremeos sits at a similar rate, with six new cases over the past week.

An outbreak in Keremeos, however, at the long-term care home Orchard Haven, was declared over on Thursday.

In comparison, Merritt currently sits at a daily rate of 0.1-5 cases per 100,000 population.

Kamloops had 32 new cases, putting the city in the same daily rate category as Merritt.

Hope had six positive cases.
