Merritt RCMP hit the road last weekend to catch an aggressive driver on April 20, as well as a driver going 70 km/h over speed limit on Highway 97C two days later.

The local detachment first responded to a complaint for an aggressive driver on Friday. The allegation came from a pedestrian who reported to have nearly been struck by the vehicle.

Staff Sgt. Lorne Wood confirmed the driver was not impaired, but was speeding and driving without insurance.

“The driver was ticketed for driving without due care and no insurance before it was towed and impounded,” he said.

Later in the weekend — on April 22 —Merritt RCMP caught a driver going 180 km/h in a 110 km zone on the Okanagan Connector.

According to Wood, RCMP impounded the driver’s vehicle and charged him with excessive speeding.

No damage was caused by drivers in either case.

Wood urged witnesses of excessive speeding or irrational driving to contact local RCMP, and noted reporting a location and even a partial license plate number is helpful to RCMP.
