United Poultry Company in Vancouver has been announced as having an outbreak of  COVID-19.

28 employees have tested positive. The plant has been closed and those any workers may have come in contact with have been identified.

Dr. Bonnie Henry said in her daily update Tuesday that there is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread from meat, or consuming such products. The packaging is also safe.

She also announced 25 new cases in B.C. over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 1,724. Over 1,000 of the total cases have recovered.

The new United Poultry numbers are not included in today’s total.

Breaking down the total in each region:

  • 707 in Vancouver Coastal
  • 715 in Fraser Health
  • 109  in Vancouver Island
  • 153 in Interior
  • 40 in Northern

One more death provincially was announced, bringing the total to 87. The person was a senior at a Vancouver Coastal long-term care home.

109 people remain hospitalized in B.C, 51 in critical care.

Dr. Henry said it is not yet time to “lessen our guard.”

“We need to continue to get through this together by remaining kind to each other, remaining calm, and staying safe.”
