The wildfire burning near Minnie Lake Road south west of Douglas Lake has grown to 112 hectares, but crews say there is no cause for concern.

“We have nine personnel on site and they are doing a great job,” said fire information officer Hannah Swift. She added crews have performed a controlled burn to keep the blaze contained.

The fire is not currently threatening any structures or communities, she added.

“We have no concerns at this time,” Swift said.

Wildfire measured at 80 hectares sparks near Merritt

Two wildfires are currently burning in the Kamloops Fire Centre region, including a 80-hectare blaze near Douglas Lake.

The blaze is currently “being held,” according to Hannah Swift, fire information officer with the BC Wildfire Service.

She added the BC Wildfire Service is working together with the Douglas Lake Fire Department to control the blaze, which has grown from 50 to 80 hectares.

The other forest fire is burning in the Princeton near Hembrie Mountain and is currently measured at six hectares.

Both fires are suspected to be human-caused.
