Highway death
One man is dead after a single vehicle collision on Highway 5.
The 81-year-old man was travelling southbound about five kilometres north of Mine Creek Road when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle crossed the centre median and the northbound lanes, then rolled down an embankment.
Merritt RCMP responded to the incident at about 4 p.m. on Dec. 18.
The man was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP are investigating. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the incident.
The roads were covered in snow and were icy, and RCMP suspect speed relative to conditions and failure to wear a seatbelt are causal factors in the incident.
