The City of Merritt is back into the single digits in new weekly cases of COVID-19, after spending a few weeks in double digits.

The latest update from the BC CDC, dated for the week of Aug. 22-28, recorded eight new cases in the Merritt area, an average daily rate per 100,000 population in the range of 5.1-10.0.

The eight cases represent a  drop over the last three weeks after a significant recent uptick. The prior report from the BC CDC recorded 13 new cases in one week in Merritt.

In the Central Okanagan, namely Kelowna, case numbers remain distinctively high though lower than last week. The area recorded 511 new cases in the most recent reporting period, down 226 from the last report.

They, along with Kamloops, Vernon, Salmon Arm, Penticton, and other areas surrounding Merritt remain in the highest bracket for cases per 100,000 population. Kamloops recorded 56 more cases in the latest report than the previous one, up to 249. The Vernon area almost doubled their positive case results, recording 263.

No regions in the BC Interior were able to record zero new positive cases during the weekly report.
