City council adopted amendments to its wood burning appliance bylaw that will enable it to issue tickets.
The previous bylaw did not have the power to fine violators of the bylaw.
Fines in the amended bylaw are $100 penalties for burning non-permitted wood burning appliance fuels, burning in a wood burning appliance that is not certified to Canadian or U.S. standards and burning in an outdoor solid-fuel combustion appliance.
“You’d have to go to court before, and this just makes it easier to ticket somebody and get them to comply,” said planning and development manager Sean O’Flaherty.
